Keynote Speakers

Linda Lysoby, Executive Director of the he National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC) will be the opening keynote speaker. Ms. Lysoby will address NCHEC’s vision for the future of health educators.

Dr. Dylan Roby, Assistant Professor of Health Policy and Management in the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and Director of Health Economics and Evaluation Research Program within the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research will speak about what health educators can do to develop or augment policy-related skills and stay abreast of policy with public health significance. He will also address how to engage communities in policy development and advocacy.

Breakout Sessions:

Transforming LA through the Built Environment

This workshop will explore the relationship between community health and public space. Attendees will hear highlights from the community work of Esperanza Community Housing Corporation, Freewaves, and the Department of Public Health Nutrition and Physical Activity program.

Strengthening the Provider’s Health Education Toolbox

Learn about the impact of health education training among clinical staff, and the role the health educator plays in affecting health behavior change. This workshop will highlight the work of the Department of Public Health Division of HIV & STD Programs, and the Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention.

Innovative Strategies for Community-Based Nutrition Education

This workshop will highlight diverse interventions in nutrition education and obesity prevention. Attendees will learn about innovative strategies used with youth, consumers, and faith-based communities to impact health behaviors. Attendees will hear highlights from the community work of the Department of Public Health Nutrition and Physical Activity program.

Innovative Practices in Community Engagement

This workshop will highlight grassroots community action and engagement in Los Angeles County. Learn how health education can be used as a strategy for engaging the community. Attendees will hear highlights from the community work of Esperanza Community Housing Corporation, Department of Public Health Division of HIV & STD Programs, and the Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention.

Health Education Approaches to Workforce Development

This workshop will share best practices for planning and implementing workforce assessments, in order to address employee training and development needs. Learn how health education can improve workforce competencies regarding health equity on population and community health. Attendees will hear highlights from the Department of Public Health.
